In case you want to help JOE McCain with his traffic woes...
his cell # is 703-980-1055.

I've been calling him every hour, making sure he's not still stuck in traffic. Also leaving messages offering to check the InterWeb on the best route for him.

I mean, come on, you've gotta give those 911 operators a break :)

(And man - am I glad John doesn't have his brother's erratic behavior or temper problems!)

(Though, this just begs to be a joke. Come on Joe, say it ain't so!)

Yes, kinda my fault...
Trish clued me into yet another one of my drunken posts, which then makes a couple text messages much more understandable.

Simply put, he ended with a bloody nose, and I was untouched and still able to get my pizza.

But I guess I instigated it, so any victory (moral or assumed) is a false victory... or as Trish put it - "How old are you??"

And life goes on in Baltimore :)

So I just was in a fight...
and I'm drunk, and I'm trying to finish my piece of pizza and beer, so please bear with me.

About 30 minutes ago, I ended up into a fight. I had been pulled out to the local bar (I had been writing beforehand), and ended up winning about seven matches in a row, all for the challenge of a shot, so seven shots were in me.

Chad has this license that ends at 1, so my roommate takes us to Max's, and everything ends perfectly. But I'm not done my beer - an Original Edelsud - so I park it in my pocket.

I hadn't eaten in like forever, so we stop at the bar pizza joint, and I'm in line waiting for a bit...

This guy next to me and I are talking, about this and that, and everything seems cool. Politics arrives - and pretty sure I instigated it - and he tells me he's not sure if he'll be voting - or allowed to. I say no matter - but if he can, hopes he votes for obama - he expresses disbelief that I will be voting for Obama.

Yes, he's black. Feels stupid to say, but he was/is.

And I say the following... "Bitch - are you kidding me - of course I'll vote for Obama - what the fuck?"

And I'm blazing out, so I'll take a coma and tell you how that comment turned into not a good night for the pizza joint.

Don't worry Ocifier...
Wow - it's taken me half the day to undrunkify from last night - I'm definitely getting older :( Sigh. I've tried to bunker behind closed blinds here in the office, but that damn sun keeps hitting me with its rays of hate. Fucking hate the sun.

Saw James last night, opened by Uncle Bob - great band, amazing time. 9:30 is a great venue as well, though the 8 dollar Guinnesses/Guinnessi? started adding up painfully. The club has a central stage with balconies surrounding, and just a great crowd. Not sure I'll be here, probably will, but in November Sisters of Mercy are playing there - much love and memories of long drives listening to non-stop Floodland.

Wondering if anyone will notice if I nap under my desk. Wondering if I care.

Going to miss this area :(
So my plans are to head back to the sunny coast of... Orlando? and help with some family sighs, maybe go to Universal, and live at the IBar. But I'm definitely going to miss this DC/Baltimore area, especially the music scene.

Now it's definitely no New York, but I've been to concerts every day this week, and seeing James this Thursday (the Manchester crew), a couple shows over the weekend, plus then next week I have an open invite to see five home Oriole games in a sponsor box, ie free drinkin. Plus all the seafood you can take over those days, and I've really taken a shine to Baltimore.

My job is a little strange at the moment. Everyone is powering down for the end of the program, which basically entails going golfing near every day, plus loads of meetings on the fringe of tee times. I've gotten offers in Florida from other programs, but they have all been in Pensacola and Miami - which is cool, but not what I'm looking for.

Dunno - strange things are afoot at the circle K - be interesting to see how they end up.

I can help with that whole dying part.
So I was out with a friend, who's a doctor at Hopkins, the local huge hospital here in town. We're basically pub crawling, and pass a group of people surrounding a lady on the ground - they were all Russian, her friends, and I guess she had fainted. Someone had called for an ambulance, and the people were milling around wondering what to do.

My friend identifies herself as a doctor - and everyone immediately made room for her - and checked the eyes, the pulse via the wrist, then the carotid artery, and then elevates the legs, gets her some sugar water, etc. Doctor stuff.

Kinda cool, but kinda strange - watching this happen, and not being able to help while another can. I'm usually very proactive, but found myself leaning against a tree and watching this surreal scene - the valets milling around not sure who to give a car to, the friends jabbering in Russian wondering why the legs needed to be elevated or why sugar water ("Your Russian language improves: +1!"), waiters and waitresses fretting about bringing multiple glasses of water and warm towels.

And my thoughts through this were, well, one, if I had identified myself as a doctor, I probably would have tried mouth-to-mouth, slammed down on her chest once or twice, then started pumping her legs like she was riding a bike. I think I saw that in a movie somewhere...

Second, what were my skills that might pertain with this situation? Let's see... I'm a writer, so...

"Hi - I'm a writer - can I help? If you want, I can start jotting down your will..."

Not sure how that one would fly :)

Did Danzig die??? Or, how dumb can Taer actually be?
So I left work yesterday, and was listening to my radio on the ride home, and noticed they were playing a lot of the Misfits, from Walk Among Us. Pretty cool, but then they kept playing song after song. Strange.

Just for the hell of it, I jumped to the second station I listen to, and they too were playing the Walk Among Us tracks. Um - WTF? Some homage to Danzig??

So I switch back to the first channel, yep, still playing, might have repeated - something's up, so I call a friend.

Ask her to check the intertubes for any notice that Danzig had died or something. I'm assuming something bad happened to the band, or there was some event - reunion? But nothing is on the interweb, and by this time I'm home, so slightly confused I move on.

This morning, leaving stupidly early, and they are playing the freakin tracks again! And switch to my other station, and they are as well - I'm totally WTWTWTFFF??

And then I look down, and notice my system is on CD. Now I had just bought this car, and had been told the CD played doesn't play CDs, mainly because one was stuck in it and couldn't be retrieved. So I've never bothered with it.

I'm guessing some random jostle unstuck the CD, and then I probably hit the setting to CD. And of course, rather than jumping from station to station, i was jumping from track to track :)

So yah, I'm an idiot - but an idiot with a free Misfits CD! :)

I totally need to have a kid :(
Just looked over Trish's Amazon registry - realized that almost everything there I wanted :(

Seriously - Dr. Seuss books and that Skwish toy - if anyone is lacking for ideas, my birthday is coming up in December.

On a tangent, saw the best Max from "Where the Wild Things Are" at DragonCon - great costume - had the scepter and everything.

So my parents have made Miis :)
So after buying my parents their CD player, computer, and IPod, I decided to buy them a Wii. And it has taken off for them!

I also bought them Tiger 08, but my dad just grabbed Wii Fit. Now they've made their Miis, they are doing Wii Fit daily, plus inviting some friends over for a round of Tiger 08 now and again - not bad at all :)

The funny thing, is though I've helped them jump into the new era, they've definitely surpassed me several times. After all that, they end up buying a Prius, have full internet connections to where they answer their phone on the tv and can see who's at their front door as well, and now have multiple huge HD television sets.

I think I've created tech monsters :)

On a segue, I just finished pool league, after totaling the best player in the league, that most everyone considers evil (one of those dickish rule-lawyer types). I ended up running five tables in a row, safetying him, then running that table. Yah, that'll never happen again :)

And after all that, I need to pass on the free drinks offered and churn out three deliverables for work - gah :)

Truths about Barack Obama :)
There are many things people do not know about BARACK OBAMA. It is every American's duty to read this message and pass it along to all of their friends and loved ones.

Barack Obama wears a FLAG PIN at all times. Even in the shower.

Barack Obama says the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE every time he sees an American flag. He also ends every sentence by saying, "WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL." Click here for video of Obama quietly mouthing the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE in his sleep.

A tape exists of Michelle Obama saying the PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE at a conference on PATRIOTISM.

Every weekend, Barack and Michelle take their daughters HUNTING.

Barack Obama is a PATRIOTIC AMERICAN. He has one HAND over his HEART at all times. He occasionally switches when one arm gets tired, which is almost never because he is STRONG.

Barack Obama has the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE tattooed on his stomach. It's upside-down, so he can read it while doing sit-ups.

There's only one artist on Barack Obama's iPod: FRANCIS SCOTT KEY.

Barack Obama is a DEVOUT CHRISTIAN. His favorite book is the BIBLE, which he has memorized. His name means HE WHO LOVES JESUS in the ancient language of Aramaic. He is PROUD that Jesus was an American.

Barack Obama goes to church every morning. He goes to church every afternoon. He goes to church every evening. He is IN CHURCH RIGHT NOW.

Barack Obama's new airplane includes a conference room, a kitchen, and a MEGACHURCH.

Barack Obama's skin is the color of AMERICAN SOIL.

Barack Obama says that Americans cling to GUNS and RELIGION because they are AWESOME

(and ah, if I but wrote this medley of truthisms. but being a college student at heart, I just cut and pasted them from another source.)

Rainy thoughts...
Woke up this morning with two cats on top of me, rain slightly drooling outside. Wish we could look ahead and have swapped last Wednesday with Friday - hell of a day then.

Sunday was pretty strange and damn awesome as well. Took Sarah and my aunt and cousin to the Artomatic (http://www.artomatic.org/) - a nine-story art extravaganza with a pretty nice bar and some amazing displays - one of the best 'Peeps' exhibit I've seen - the Reservoir Dogs display with all peeps was pretty inspired :) If you're in the area, definitely see.

Afterwards, we went off to see Radiohead at the Nissan pavilion - 12,000 people, tons of water falling from the sky, and an amazing concert all told. Plus a lot of half-naked folks freezing while trying to get their wet clothing to dry - much body warmth sharing was underway there. Little different from the last time I saw them in Florida :)

Radiohead had this overall structure around them like upside-down organ pipes, that could each be individually controlled to light up / flash in whatever sequence they wanted. Behind them were huge wide-screen screens depicting the group in real-time, but with random colors and backgrounds, so everything seemed like a natural music video - and of course the music was great.

So, kudos for Baltimore - definitely good spot to see music from. REM/Modest Mouse upcoming, Toad the Wet Sprocket (anyone remember them?), plus Filter, Less than Jake and Goldfinger, Trio - definitely a lot of music upcoming around town that I have tickets for. this year - going to go fast.

Random post to waste random time - hope you're all having a great day and an awesome weekend.

So Joseph is dead yet again.
Yep, once again my car gets hit and reasonably destroyed by another.

An old guy, eschewing Tarmacs and public markets, decides to jump past a stop sign, into another car, and they both jump over to my side of the road to say hi. Fortunately nobody was injured, though spiritually I was devastated as I watched my car turn from a vibrant roadster into a mangled cadaver. Not all was a total loss though - the air bags had the good sense to stay hidden and out of danger :)

So now I'm driving a rented Prius (might as well check them out), and waiting for my car to be officially declared dead. le sigh.

Voltaire and Ego Likeness...
Noticed he's in Gainesville soon - definitely a must-see. He plays at DragonCon a lot, and was just in Orpheus here in Baltimore - really good show. Totally suggest you see him if you get the chance. Goth humor - gotta love the darkness - and who doesn't want a zombie prostitute?

Strange tidbits and a reminder on how small this world is - the intro band, Ego Likeness, happens to be from Baltimore, and I spent half the show hanging out with their parents (the band is a married couple), and I have an open invite to her father's place, which is a Seafood/Crab restaurant - um, pretty sweet, kinda random.

We'll miss you Olaf - Gary Gygax passes on :(
Definitely the geek inside just cried a little when I heard that Gary Gygax died recently. I met him a couple times at GenCon - nice guy - and though the whole background is a contentious story itself, there were definitely many nights of Mountain Dew and Cheetos that wouldn't have been possible without him.

The d20 in my pocket feels awfully heavy now :) Cya Gary.

Someone is Hacking into the SQL Server to start a Fire Sale!
Or maybe just a tiny grid hiccup, but either way work had power issues and I'm out early already getting in a round of golf and going to the beach on this amazing day.

Ok, maybe the harbor, Baltimore's beach. The one place where you DO NOT want to start looking for seashells - trust me.

Still - amazing out there - a nice Florida day here in Maryland - go figure :)
